ARISE is a pathfinder array for the observation of radio emission from cosmic-ray air showers, which was recently deployed at the Pierre Auger Observatory. Consisting of 18 SKALA antennas in a dense configuration, it aims to demonstrate the efficient detection of cosmic rays with energies above 100 PeV in coincidence with the Auger Surface Detector, which will enable detailed studies of the cosmic-ray mass composition in the Galactic-extragalactic transition region. In this presentation, I will discuss the science case for ARISE, its deployment, and the first observation of air showers.
